BEES RE-SIGN CARRILLO, ADD VILLAESCUSA

OPENING DAY IS APRIL 21 VS YORK; 22 PLAYERS SIGNED FOR 2017

(New Britain, Conn., March 30, 2017) - New Britain Bees team officials today announced that the team has re-signed infielder Steve Carrillo. In addition, the Bees have signed free agent catcher Ivan Villaescusa for the 2017 season.

Carrillo re-joins the Bees after two separate stints in the Hardware City in 2016, during which he batted .246 with three home runs and 25 runs batted in over 79 games. The 29-year old had his contract purchased by Vaqueros Laguna in Mexico following the Atlantic League All-Star break last season. In six professional seasons, Carrillo has appeared in 395 games and has driven in 144 runs, while primarily playing shortstop.

Villaescusa joins the Bees after spending the 2016 season with the Yuma Hammers of the Desert League, serving as player/manager. The 30-year old started his professional career in 2006 with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization, spending parts of three seasons in the Angels organization, reaching High-A in 2008. The 6-foot-2 native of San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico has played in nine professional seasons, spending time at catcher, first base, and third base.

“I’m excited to have Steve back and to add Ivan to our team,” said Bees Manager Stan Cliburn. “I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do this season.”
