RIGHT HANDER SPENT PARTS OF TWO SEASONS IN PHILADELPHIA

(New Britain, Conn., March 24, 2017) - New Britain Bees team officials today announced that the team has signed pitcher Jonathan Pettibone for the 2017 season. Pettibone becomes the second pitcher with Major League experience to sign in New Britain this season, joining MLB veteran Joe Beimel.

The 6-foot 5, 230-pound. right-hander made his Major League debut with the Philadelphia Phillies on April 22, 2013, striking out six across 5.2 innings in a no-decision against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pettibone also walked and scored during the Phillies’ 3-2 victory. The 26-year old would go on to make 20 total starts for the Phillies in 2013 and 2014, registering five wins and a 4.45 ERA across 109 innings pitched, while striking out 72 batters.

Pettibone has was drafted in the third round of the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft by the Phillies, with his most successful season coming in 2011 with High-A Clearwater, where he won 10 games and registered a 2.96 ERA across 161 innings pitched. Following the 2012 season, Pettibone was named as the number four prospect in the Phillies’ system by Baseball America after winning 13 games and posting a 3.10 ERA for Reading (AA) and Lehigh Valley (AAA).  Over his seven professional seasons, Pettibone has appeared in 117 games (115 starts) and tossed 646.1 innings, striking out 447 with a 3.62 career ERA.

Pettibone is the son of former Minnesota Twins pitcher Jay Pettibone, and was teammates with current Bees pitcher Kyle Simon as well as former Bees outfielder Anthony Hewitt while in the Phillies organization.

“Jonathan is a great addition to our rotation,” said Bees Manager Stan Cliburn. “He’s a young, talented arm, and will be a very valuable part of our pitching staff this season.”
