(NEW BRITAIN, CT) – The New Britain Bees defeat the Pittsfield Suns 5-3 on a late go-ahead hit from Colton Shaw in the eighth at New Britain Stadium Tuesday night, taking sole possession of second place in the Futures League.

Pittsfield was able to strike early in the first on a sac-fly from Robbie Burnett (UNC-Asheville/Franklinton, NC) who drove in Caleb Shpur (Endicott/East Canaan, CT) giving Pittsfield a 1-0 lead.

The Bees were able to get things going in the bottom half of the second when Colton Shaw (Yale/Richardson, TX) ripped a double into the left-center gap. Tyler Pettorini (Ohio State/Wooster, OH) drove in Shaw on an error by the shortstop to even the game up 1-1.

The Bees kept buzzing as Anthony DePino (Rhode Island/Madison, CT) hit a moonshot over the left field wall that gave the Bees a 3-1 lead after two. Pettorini scored on DePino’s homer.

Pittsfield was able to scrape together a run in the top half of the third when Drew Metzdorf drove in Bo Bramer (Fordham/Pittsfield, MA) on an RBI single to left field cutting New Britain’s lead to 3-2.

The bats were quiet up until the seventh inning when Pittsfield tied the game up at 3-3 on a Bramer sac-fly that scored Derek Paris (UMBC/Lanesborough, MA)

The Bees struck again late in the eighth when Shaw hit a go-ahead RBI single into left field that scored Torniero. Jake Blinstrub (Georgia Southwestern/Peach Tree, GA) also scored on the play on an overthrow from Pittsfield catcher Paris giving the Bees a 5-3 lead late in the ballgame.

Jaden Wywoda (Holy Cross/Milford, CT) started the game for the Bees, going three-innings allowing two hits, two runs, two walks while punching out three Pittsfield hitters.

T.J. Wainwright (CCSU/Stamford, CT) came in out of relief and was dominant. The Central Connecticut righty went six-innings of five hit baseball allowing just one run, two walks and striking out four hitters earning himself the win and Bees Player Of The Night.
