North Shore Scores 16 to Defeat Bees at New Britain Stadium

NEW BRITAIN, C.T. -- The Bees returned home for the first of a three game home stand and after a good start to the game, really lost control and gave up 16 unanswered runs to lose, 16-3 against the North Shore Navigators.

The Bees were first to get on the board early on this afternoon with a solo home run to centerfield from Danniel Rivera (Southern New Hampshire), then in the bottom of the second inning Noah Martinez (Central CT State University) did the exact same thing going deep for his third home run of the season.  The Bees led the Navigators 2-0 heading into the fourth inning.

That is when the disaster began for New Britain.  Ben Casparius (UConn), who had pitched a gem giving up only one run on one hit, exited the game and the Navigators exploded on the Bees’ relief pitchers.  In the top of the sixth inning, Ben Malgeri (Northeastern University) hit a two run home run, his first of the season, to give North Shore a 3-2 lead over New Britain.  Later that inning, Jack Whorf (UMass) hit a single into left field that scored another run for North Shore and led the Bees by two runs.

Moving to the top of the seventh inning, Ben Malgeri did some more damage hitting a double to drive in another run for North Shore.  The next batter, Cody Morisette (Boston College) hit a single into right field that drove home two more runs and extended the Navigators lead to five runs.  Logan Bravo (Harvard University) had a single and Jack Whorf connected with a double later in the inning to bring in two more runs and the Navigators then led 9-2 over the Bees.  The Navigators were not done either, moving to the top of the ninth inning with North Shore up 12-2, Ben Malgeri crushed a grand slam off the scoreboard in left field, making it the first time any player had a multi-home run game this season at New Britain Stadium.  Malgeri finished the game with seven RBIs.

The Bees started Ben Casparius who had another great outing, pitching five innings while also striking out seven North Shore batters.  Jagger Duquette (Wagner College) recorded his first loss of the season after giving up eight runs on six hits in just 1.1 innings pitched on the mound.  Yanni Orfanidis (St. Thomas Aquinas) also struggled, only pitching 0.2 innings and giving up five runs on three hits.

The Navigators started Cedric Gillette (Merrimack College) who had a solid performance on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings and giving up two runs on four hits.  Max Meier (Stanford University) and Nick Reiser (Franklin Pierce) also saw some action this afternoon.

The Bees enter the final full week of the season at 11-19, while the Navigators improve to 14-15.  New Britain will be home to face the Worcester Bravehearts for the second of a three game home stand Monday night. First pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. from New Britain Stadium. Click Here For Tickets.
