GAME 23: Bees Keep Buzzing; Comeback To Beat Brockton 5-4 For Fourth Straight Win

(BROCKTON, MA) – The Bees win their fourth straight game as they comeback to beat the Brockton Rox on the road, 5-4 at Campanelli Stadium.
The Bees struck early in the game as Craig Corliss (UMass-Boston/Hopkinton, MA) hit one back up the middle that scored Zach Donahue (Eastern CT St./South Windsor, CT) to give New Britain an early 1-0 lead in the first.
Brockton was able to even the score up on a Jaden Sheffield (Georgetown/Tampa, FL) sac-fly that scored Peter Messervy (Harvard/Weston, MA).
Brockton took the lead in the second on another sac-fly, but this time from Jack Doyle (Northeastern/Weymouth, MA) scoring Mike La Rocca (SNHU/Vero Beach, FL) giving the Rox a 2-1 lead.
Brockton was able to score two more runs in the fourth giving them a 4-1 lead over New Britain.
The Bees bats finally woke up in the seventh when Joel Lara (Franklin Pierce/South Boston, MA) ripped a double into right-field that scored Christian Holmes (Kansas St./Frankfurt, IL) cutting Brockton’s lead to 4-2.
Later that inning Donahue hit an infield single to shortstop, scoring Luke Lappe (North Alabama/Meriden, CT) making it 4-3, Brockton.
Teddy Schoenfeld (M.I.T./Boulder, CO) hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Lara tying the game up against Brockton, 4-4.
New Britain’s Donahue drew a big two-out walk in the ninth then stole second, putting the winning run for the Bees in scoring position. The next batter, Schoenfeld ripped a single into right-field that scored Donahue giving the Bees a 5-4 lead late in the game.
New Britain’s relief pitching was lights out as Justin Lessing (Middlebury/Westport, CT), Henry Gustavson (Middlebury/Southborough, MA) and Colton Shaw (Yale/Richardson, TX) combined for five and one-third of scoreless baseball not allowing a hit and striking out six Brockton batters.
Ryan Daniels (UConn/Meriden, CT), Lara and Corliss all collected two-hits on the night. Lara and Corliss each tallied a run-batted-in.
The Bees return home tomorrow, June 23rd to take on the Westfield Starfires at 6:35 P.M. Join the Bees for $2 Pabst Blue Ribbon throughout the game. Gates open at 5:35 P.M.
