(NEW BRITAIN CT) – The Bees picked up their third straight win as they beat the Worcester Bravehearts, 3-1 on Tuesday night at New Britain Stadium.
The Bravehearts were able to get out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third-inning when Sal Grinstead (Palm Beach St./Palm Coast, FL) scored on a five-three putout.
The Bees offensive couldn’t get going until C.J. Brito-Trinidad (Bowdoin/South Kent, CT) hit a single to left-field that scored Colton Shaw (Yale/Richardson, TX) tying the game up 1-1 in the bottom half of the fourth.
The Bees weren’t finished as Joel Lara (Franklin Pierce/ South Boston, MA) hit a go-ahead two-run double that scored Matt DeRosa (Quinnipiac/North Haven, CT) and Mike Torniero (CCSU/East Haven, CT) giving the Bees a 3-1 lead over the Bravehearts in the seventh.
The Bees pitching was shoving all night as Mick Kelley (Yale/San Francisco, CA) got the nod for the Bees. The Yale righty went four-innings on one-run, seven-hits and five strikeouts.
T.J. Wainwright (CCSU/Stamford, CT) came in to relieve Kelley in the fifth. Wainwright was a force to be reckoned with as he went three-innings of no-hit baseball while punching out three Braveheart hitters earning himself the win.
Davis Hanson (Yale/Winston Salem, NC) finished off the final two innings of the game allowing zero hits while securing the save.
Brito-Trinidad, DeRosa and Tyler Pettorini (Ohio State/Wooster, OH) all collected two-hits each on the night.
The Bees are back in action tomorrow on the road, June 22nd facing the Brockton Rox at 7:00 P.M. as they try to make it four straight wins. The Bees return home Thursday, June 23rd to take on the Westfield Starfires at 6:35 P.M for $2 Pabst Blue Ribbon promotion.
