(NEW BRITAIN, CT) – Bees take down the Lake Monsters 13-12 in a slugfest at New Britain Stadium Friday night beating the Futures Leagues winningest team.

It was an electric first-inning for New Britain as they put up an eleven spot against the Future League’s, league leading sixteen win, Vermont Lake Monsters.

It all started when Joel Lara (Franklin Pierce Univ./South Boston, MA) drew a walk and then stole his league-leading twenty-first base. He later scored on a Tyler Pettorini (Ohio State Univ./Wooster, OH) base-hit up the middle which would be the start of the eleven run first for the Bees.

C.J. Brito-Trinidad (Bowdoin/South Kent, CT) was the standout player of the inning as he tallied two-hits and three RBI’s. Teddy Schoenfeld (M.I.T./Boulder, CO), Lara and Pettorini each scored twice in the first.

Colton Shaw (Yale/Richardson, TX), Christian Holmes (Kansas St. Univ/Frankfurt, IL), Mike Torniero (Central CT St./East Haven, CT) and Matthew Bradbury (Eastern CT St./Sandy Hook, CT) each came around to score in the first. Shaw and Torniero each recorded a hit and an RBI in New Britain’s eleven run first.

The Vermont Lake Monsters started to crawl back as they put up one run in the top-half of the second and two runs in the top half of the third cutting the Bees lead to 11-3.

The Lake Monsters were able to score eight more unanswered tying the Bees lead to 11-11 in the seventh.

The Bees were able to score in the bottom half of the seventh to untie the game when Bradbury hit a sac-fly to right-field that scored Torniero making it, 12-11 Bees.

Things didn't end there when Vermont’s Henry Godbout (Virginia/Brooklyn, NY) tied the game in the top of the eighth with a sac-fly to left-field.

The Bees reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the eighth when Pettorini hit a clutch base-hit up the middle that scored Schoenfeld. This gave the Bees a 13-12 lead.

The game was called due to rain at the conclusion of the eighth-inning. The Bees take on Worcester Bravehearts tomorrow June 19th at 1:35 P.M. for some Father’s Day Baseball. EMP Apparel will also be having a giveaway.
