New Britain Signs Ben Casparius

(New Britain, Conn., July 20th, 2020) –The New Britain Bees today announced the signing of UCONN Junior Ben Casparius for the remainder of the 2020 season. The Westport, CT native is a Junior at the University of Connecticut and is a two-way player as both a Right-Handed Pitcher, and an Infielder.

“Ben is a very talented ballplayer who is from our area and will help bring versatility to our group.”  says Bees General Manager Brad Smith. “He’s played at a big-time program in UNC, and now again at UCONN after transferring, we can’t wait to be able to showcase him to our fans in New Britain.”

Before transferring to UCONN where he had to sit out the 2020 season due to transfer rules Ben was a talented Freshman at the University of North Carolina who starred both on and off the mound. He Finished that season with a 1.69 ERA in 10 appearances as a pitcher, and a .316 average at the plate.

Prior to attending UNC, Ben graduated from Staples High School in Westport, Conn. He was ranked the No. 1 overall player in the state of Connecticut and No. 22 shortstop in the country by Perfect Game. He was the 2017 Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year by way of leading Staples High School to the 2017 State Championship, and becoming the All-time hits leader in the state of Connecticut.

About the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)

The FCBL is made up of seven teams from various parts of New England, each of which plays 28 home games and 28 away games.
