Skeeters Score Early And Often To Defeat Bees In Series Finale

Three More Hits For Romero, Including Fourth Home Run

 

(New Britain, CT– May 27, 2018) – The Sugar Land Skeeters (18-10) defeated the New Britain Bees (10-18) 9-3 at New Britain Stadium on Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of a three-game holiday weekend series in the Hardware City.

New Britain starting pitcher Tyler Badamo (1-4) suffered the loss in his debut in a Bees uniform, allowing seven runs (four earned runs) on eight hits (one home run) in five innings pitched, walking one while striking out three and hitting one batter. Sugar Land starting pitcher Brett Marshall (2-1) earned the win after giving up two runs on seven hits (one home run) in five innings on the mound, walking two and striking out eight along with tossing a pair of wild pitches.

Sugar Land got on the board quickly against Badamo in the top half of the first inning, scoring three runs on three hits for an instant 3-0 lead by way of an RBI double off the bat of Derek Norris that allowed Barrett Barnes to score the game’s first run after he led off the contest by reaching on an error committed by shortstop Reid Brignac. The Skeeters added two more in the frame when Matt Chavez drove home Albert Cordero and Norris with a two-out, two-run base knock to the opposite field in right. Norris was at it again in the top of the second, taking his former battery mate deep for a grand slam home run to left centerfield which gave the visitors a commanding 7-0 advantage. New Britain cracked the scoreboard for the first time on the day in the home half of the fifth when Deibinson Romero blasted a two-run home run to left off Marshall to get the Bees to within 7-2. The power-hitting right-handed slugger added to his team lead in home runs with his fourth big fly as well as runs batted in with 16. Vinny Siena’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth scored Matt Tuiasosopo after he reached base by way of a leadoff free pass, giving the game its final score of 9-3.
