Ducks Defeat Bees In Series Finale

Brignac Extends Hitting Streak

(New Britain, CT– May 10, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks (7-5) defeated the New Britain Bees (3-9) 3-1 at New Britain Stadium on Thursday evening to take the rubber game of the three game series in the Nutmeg State.

New Britain starting pitcher Andy Van Hekken (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs (two earned runs) on six hits across six innings on the mound, walking one and striking out four. Long Island starting pitcher Bennett Parry (1-0) picked up the win after surrendering just one run on five hits in five innings pitched, walking three and striking out six. Francisco Rodriguez retired all three batters he faced in the bottom half of the ninth inning for his second save of the series and the season.

Long Island took an immediate 3-0 lead against Van Hekken in the top half of the first inning, with all of the runs coming with two men out as Travis Snider, Lew Ford, and David Washington tallied three consecutive doubles that plated a pair of runs, while a Jonathan Galvez error added a third run for the flock. New Britain cut the deficit to 3-1 in the home half of the frame versus Parry when Reid Brignac drove in Deibinson Romero with a two-out double into the right field corner after Robinson reached base by way of a free pass. The two-bagger for Brignac extended his hitting streak to a team and season high eight consecutive games overall. Each respective pitching staff settled in nicely for the remainder of the ballgame, as the Ducks bullpen recorded twelve outs over four scoreless innings of work on just one hit allowed. Six different Bees batters tallied one hit apiece in defeat. Photo provided courtesy of Megan Murnane.
