The Bees: Yesterday, the Bees completed their first doubleheader sweep of the season, defeating Bridgeport in the home and home series. Craig Maddox went a combined 5-8 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, and Jovan Rosa went 4-9 with a double, a home run, and 3 RBI. It took 11 innings to determine a winner in game 1, but the Bees edged the Bluefish 7-6 in Bridgeport. In the night cap at New Britain Stadium, James Skelton and Conor Bierfeldt homered to lead the Bees to a 7-2 win.

The Opposition: Any momentum that the Bluefish may have generated with their 2 straight wins over Lancaster before coming into this series against New Britain has possibly halted after being swept in the home and home doubleheader. Angel Rosa hit a home run in game 1, and Angelys Nina homered in both games of the twin bill. The Bridgeport bullpen continued to prove how dominant they are capable of being, particularly in game 1 when they limited New Britain to just 1 hit across 4 innings before the Bees put up 2 runs in the top of the 11th.

Starting Pitchers –

Game 1: New Britain: RHP Nate Roe (5-3, 2.95) | Bridgeport: LHP Manny Parra (1-2, 7.71)
Game 2: New Britain: RHP Kyle Simon (8-10, 4.34) | Bridgeport: RHP Brian Gouin (0-1, 9.52)

Key to the Game – No more Nina: In yesterday’s doubleheader, Bridgeport scored a combined 8 runs between the two games. Angelys Nina is responsible for driving 3 of them in, 2 of them were himself when he hit a solo home run in both games. He demonstrated yesterday how much of a threat he can be against the New Britain pitching staff. In 9 games against the Bees this year, Nina has scored 11 runs, good for second on the team, and is batting .314 with 5 of his 11 hits being for extra bases. Look for the New Britain pitching staff to be extra cautious when delivering to Nina as well as the batters before him, keeping runners off the bases when he is up to bat and keeping an offensive threat like himself off the bases as well.
