Ducks Crush Four Home Runs In Victory Over Bees

Amarista Extends Hitting Streak

(New Britain, CT – June 5, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks (25-13) defeat the New Britain Bees (20-17) 5-2 at New Britain Stadium on Wednesday evening and have now taken two of the first three games of a four-game set in the Nutmeg State.

New Britain starting pitcher Rainy Lara (4-2) was efficient all game on the mound, throwing just 76 pitches in six and one-third innings of work. Lara was tagged for four home runs on the night as he gave up five earned runs on five hits en route to his second loss of the season. Giovanni Soto took over in relief of Lara in the seventh frame and tossed an inning and one-third of scoreless baseball, allowing just one hit. Jose Rosario did not allow a run in the ninth out of the New Britain bullpen. Long Island starting pitcher Joe Iorio (2-0) was stellar for the Flock, pitching six innings while surrendering five hits and just two runs in his longest start of the season. Cody Mincey, Vin Mazzaro and Enrique Burgos did not allow a run in three combined innings out of the Long Island bullpen, with Burgos finishing the contest off to notch his fourth save of the campaign.

The Ducks got out to a 1-0 lead in the top half of the third inning on a home run by Daniel Fields. In the top of the fourth, David Washington hit his 12th home run of the season, putting Long Island in front 3-0. In the top of the sixth, L.J. Mazzilli kept the long-ball party going with his second big fly of 2019. The Bees would start to claw their way back in the bottom of the sixth when Alejandro De Aza laced a two-out RBI single, but was stranded at first base. In the top of the seventh, Washington gave the Ducks a little bit more insurance with his second roundtripper of the night, putting the visitors ahead 5-2. Alexi Amarista singled in the home half of the sixth to extend his hitting streak to 15 consecutive games overall, matching the club-high set by Alejandro De Aza from May 10th-May 26th.
