Bees Fall To Ducks Despite Three Solo Home Runs

Amarista Extends Hitting Streak

(New Britain, CT – June 3, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks (24-12) defeated the New Britain Bees (19-16) 5-3 at New Britain Stadium on Monday evening in the opener of a four-game series between Liberty Division foes.

New Britain starting pitcher Cory Riordan (3-3) was tagged with the loss after surrendering four runs (three earned runs) on eight hits (two home runs) in seven innings pitched, walking one while striking out two and tossing a wild pitch. Long Island starting pitcher Alec Asher (3-0) earned the win, allowing three runs five hits (three home runs) in six innings of work, walking three and striking out one while throwing a pair of wild pitches. Vin Mazzaro retired all six batters he faced in relief for his first save of the season.

The Bees took a 2-0 lead versus Asher in the bottom half of the first inning thanks to a pair of solo home runs produced by Alexi Amarista and Alejandro De Aza. The roundtripper by Amarista was his team-leading seventh of the campaign and extended his hitting streak to a personal best 13 consecutive contests overall. New Britain went ahead 3-0 in the home half of the second once again by way of the long ball as Bijan Rademacher went yard with a solo blast to right field, his second big fly in as many days. Trailing 3-2 in the top of the fifth, the Flock scored a pair of runs to take their first lead of the night 4-3 (one they would never relinquish) with Vladimir Frias chipping in with a leadoff home run to right while Steve Lombardozzi brought home the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly that plated Matt den Dekker. Long Island would add an insurance run in the top of the eighth to give the game its final score of 5-3 by way of another sacrifice fly, this one off the bat of David Washington that allowed L.J. Mazzilli to cross the plate. The bullpen duo of Alex Katz and Mazzaro did the rest as they erased all nine combined New Britain hitters, striking out two.
