Huge First Inning Lifts Bees To Series Victory Over Revolution

Seven Shutout Innings For Van Hekken, Siena And Skelton Go Back-To-Back

(York, PA– August 8, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (14-14, 47-44) defeated the York Revolution (13-15, 45-46) 11-0 at PEOPLEsBank Park on Wednesday night in the rubber game of a three-game series in the White Rose City. The contest concluded in the bottom half of the eighth inning with one out and the bases empty due to rain. New Britain closes out their two-state, seven-game road trip with an overall record of 3-4.

New Britain starting pitcher Andy Van Hekken (5-6) tallied the win after a dominating seven scoreless innings on just four hits allowed and five strikeouts. York starting pitcher Dominic Severino (4-8) suffered the loss, surrendering seven runs on six hits in just one-third of an inning and eight batters faced while striking out and hitting one.

The Bees sent 13 men to the plate in the top half of the first inning, scoring eight runs on eight hits before Van Hekken even threw a pitch in the ballgame. After Darren Ford led off the contest with a double into the left field corner, Brock Stassi followed with an RBI triple off the wall in right, his team-leading fourth three-base hit of the season. With runners at the corners, Jovan Rosa plated Stassi with a run-scoring base knock to give the visitors a 2-0 cushion. Jamar Walton followed Rosa with a base hit that scored Romero to put the boys from the Hardware City in front 3-0. The dynamic duo of Vinny Siena and James Skelton were up next, and they went back-to-back and belly-to-belly, with Siena cracking a three-run home run over the Arch Nemesis in left and Skelton blasting a solo tater onto the picnic area in right, ending the night for Severino. Siena now has two home runs (one grand slam) and seven runs batted in over his last three ballgames. Stassi concluded the eight-run frame by driving home Ford once again, this time by way of a two-base hit. New Britain batted around in the top of the eighth and scored three more runs in the process to give the game its final score of 11-0, highlighted by Stassi’s two-run single that allowed Skelton and Ford to cross the plate and a bases loaded free pass issued to Jason Rogers. The rest of the night belonged to Van Hekken as he notched his seventh quality start of the campaign. Stassi led the offensive attack with three hits en route to the victory, a home run shy of the cycle. Photo provided courtesy of Joe Doll.
